I took in in our living room! :) Karlie and his brother Willy were very young and new at our family. So we took them on a blanket on the table and played around with them. Then we built little tubes out of leather pieces where they could rest if they want. Karlie understood immediately what these tubes were for, rushed in one and layed down. When he looked out of the tube, his face expression was so overwhelming cute (in my eyes), I took my camera at once and made photos of this perfect situation.Time
It was evening....the daily work was done and the house became quiet. So the two brothers had the chance to calm down and enjoy the play and the goodies....Lighting
Worth is maybe that I never use flashes when I take pictures of animals. Really never! I don`t want to frighten them, I don't want to harm them.Equipment
I used my old Olympus E-510 with a 50mm 1.8 lens. NO flash, no tripod, I simply layed the camera on the table and acted very caaaaareful. Exifs are: 50mm, f4, 1/20 sec, ISO 400Inspiration
The perfect situation when he looked out of this leather tube...so cute, looked directly into my eyes, the light was so soft and warm....Editing
I did some sharping and some cropping and put the whole picture into sepia....I thought this would lead the eyes of the viewers on Karlie's eyes better as if I let the picture fully coloured. In my camera bag
Normally and today I have a Nikon D7200 plus my every day-lens Sigma 18-250mm on it with me plus a 40mm Macro lens, plus infrared- remote, mostly a tripod (depends on what I planned to shoot). When I want to take macros of flowers etc, I take only my macro lenses (the 40mm plus my Sigma 105mm) with me. When I go to zoo, to special festivals or similar, additionally I take my 55-300 Nikkor lens with me.Feedback
It's just always the same: Patience, patience and patience - waiting for the "right" moment, light and expression. You'll may take 100 photos and of those 100 you will only find 10 that are quite ok. And if you are lucky, you will find THE ONE. If not - try again. Never give up - never. If you want to shoot animals-closeups you have to be patient, very quiet, if possible and allowed take some goodies with you. Try to get in contact with the animal...slow and take you time - means: Concentrate on the rythm and reactions of the animal....as soon as it gets comfortable with your presence - moments of special relationship and relaxation will follow - these are the best moments to get some awesome closeup portraits. Wish you enormous luck and joy!
