Location
I shot this photo at Grouse Ridge Lake in central Indiana.Time
The was taken late in the afternoon.Lighting
I used off camera strobe to light the back of subject so I could keep the details in the shadow while exposing for the scenic landscape.Equipment
I used a Canon 5d Mark III, Canon 16-35mm L II Lens, Focal Length of 30 mm Aperture f/4 at 1/500 of a second.Inspiration
I asked the boy in the photo if he wanted to try anything near the water and he was up for it. So he came up with the idea of looking off to the distant and I began to capture it. I only took three frames until I got this shot.Editing
I imported the raw file into Lightroom and made some minor adjustments to the shadows and sky before exporting it to On1 Photo and adding a filter to boost the color saturation. In my camera bag
I usually carry one or two lenses with me at all times, along with extra batteries and memory cards.Feedback
The key to this was shooting it at the time of day. Try to avoid midday shoots as the light will be too harsh to control.
