I know EXACTLY where this is! Chinaman's Hat on Oahu. We spent a week in Hawaii in September and toured Oahu for a day. This night shot is AMAZING. I got a few during the day from this same spot.

Location
This was photographed at Kualoa Beach Park on the windward coast of Oahu, HI.Time
This was taken around 11pm.Lighting
There was no additional light source that I added on this photo. The street lights in the distance light the trees. In the distance you can see the lights of Kaneohe lighting the low clouds in the background.Equipment
I used a Sony A7ii with a Zeiss Batis 18mm wide lens and on a simple tripod.Inspiration
I seen many photos taken a Kualoa Ranch at night, I wanted to capture Mokoli?i (also known as China Man's Hat) with the Milky Way in the background. I also bought a new lens and wanted to give a try. After the night shift at work a bunch of other photographers and myself went out to chase the Milky Way. In Oahu it is hard to find many spots to shoot the Milky Way because of light pollution. I was hoping to find clear skies but ended up with a bunch of high clouds. I though it was going to be a bust but after processing the photo, I found the cloud added a nice touch to the photograph.Editing
Yes, Had to reduce the highlights from the street lights and bring up the details in the shadows. Then, I used a dehaze filter where the magic happened. The Milky Way appeared behind the high clouds. In my camera bag
My equipment is pretty standard. My Sony A7ii, Zeiss Batis 18mm lens, Sony 24-240 lens, a remote control, tripod, a chair to relax, and a Spam Musubi to snack on.Feedback
It's always good idea to try, even if conditions isn't ideal. The photos that I though wasn't going to turn out becomes one of my favorite photos. Also, shoot photographs that makes you happy. Don't let others dictated your style because it wouldn't be art if everything met a standard.
