This portrait was photographed in one of my pastures.Time
This was taken in the golden hour - this is one of my favourite times to photograph as the light is soft and the golden tones helped to highlight all the yellows from the buttercups, the horse and the child's hair.Lighting
I like the pasture I photographed this portrait in as there is a tree line that helps to filter out the sun. I waited until the golden hour, when the shadows of the trees were longer and the light coming through the trees was soft and golden.Equipment
This was photographed with a Canon 5d Mk III and the canon 200mm f/2Inspiration
I love the yellow buttercups that come through in our field each spring. The yellow looked so beautiful with our palomino horse, who is so gentle and kind with children.Editing
I had to work to tone down the yellows in the buttercups and did some additional color toning. In my camera bag
I always have my canon 5d Mk IV and III with me, along with the canon 200 f2, canon 85 1.2 and the canon 135 f2.Feedback
When working with children and animals, knowing their personalities is key. I have a haflinger who I recently photographed with this same child in the same area, but would never have paired them together when the little girl was so young. Patience is also key, as well as being able to work and move quickly.
