Location
This photo was taken on Talacra Beach in North Wales. We were camping close by and it had been raining all day, but fortunately the weather cleared up in the evening.Time
It was taken at sunset. The time was between 8-9pm, i left my wife to look after kids and trudged through the soaking wet sand dunes to the beach.Lighting
The sun was still quite high when i got onto the beach, so i had a good scout around to find some suitable areas to shoot from whilst i had time to kill. The clouds were clearing and the light between the clouds was amazing. I tried to capture the feeling of a desolate wind swept beach, where the storm clouds were being blown away.Equipment
I shot this with a Nikon D90 with a 24-70mm lens. I kept the aperture down to 100 and the lens at F16 to keep everything in focus. I preferred the sharp clouds in the image as i think there is more mood in them. I used a tripod to keep everything stable and sharp.Inspiration
I love the sunset after a storm, the light through the clouds is amazing. During the hour or so of shooting, there was four other photographers there which had the same idea.Editing
Very little processing was done, just highlights and shadows were lifted a littleIn my camera bag
I normally take my Nikon D90, 24-70mm lens, 70-300mm lens, 50mm lens 20mm lens and a speed light. Although on this evening all i had was my camera and a tripod.Feedback
I wanted to get a sunset with the lighthouse whilst we were there on holiday. i could see that the weather was clearing late afternoon and i thought that if it carries on clearing we might be lucky and get a sunset. I knew i wouldn't have much time, but i also knew where i wanted to shoot from. So i could travel very lite to the area without lugging all the kit around. Knowing the area that you want to shoot and being prepared to drop everything and go, got me this image. I had been waiting for days for a good sunset and eventually got one.
