Daniel, awesome photo. The cloud just to the upper left of the lighthouse has a golden glow from within. Where is that light coming from? It seems you've captured a sunset image along with a starry night image. Impressive.

Thanks, This was a blend of multiple exposures at different times, all hand blended manualy. To create the vision I had in my mind this was what I needed to do!

Hi Daniel, this shot is stunning. Enquiring minds, here in New Zealand are wondering where the location is? Your photo was shared by a friend of mine on Facebook and I love it so much I have joined viewbug just to follow you! Your work is inspiring for an ameteur like me :)

Thanks! I am quite the ameteur currently. Been shooting for not long but this photo was taken over here in Canada at one of our local lighthouses, its a blend of multiple exposures at diffferent time frames. Feel free to add me on facebook to follow more of my work. I find viewbug upsizes photos a lot which lose detail and quality a great deal! Thanks for the inspiring words

Visually Stunning... it also tells a story... appealing to whatever is inside the viewer... for me, it is encouraging travel and unlimited exploration knowing that the stars will guide me and there is always a beacon to show me the way home... Truly Lovely!

This shot is absolutely amazing! It's these kinds of pictures that inspire me to be a photographer! What type of camera do you use, or what camera wold you recommend to a young, but good photographer? I'm hunting for a great first camera.

Location
I took this photo at a place called Lighthouse Park In Vancouver,B.C. Canada.Time
It was just one of those night where I decided to get creative. I first chose my basic foreground exposure to be a lighthouse with the ocean and clouds, the second exposure I had to wait late at night to capture the milky way and then combine the two images using hand blending techniques.Lighting
The lighting was decent, it was one of those images that I knew needed something more to give it that atmospheric feel when first viewed. I knew this lighthouse with the clouds would be a great composition but I just thought it would give a better feel to it if there were some stars in the sky as well.Equipment
I generally shoot with my Canon 6D, 24-105mm L and my 14mm Samyang Prime 2.8. I also use a carbon fibre Milano tripod with B2 head. Depending on if im shooting before sunset or late at night I will also bring my Formatt Hitech IRND filters.Inspiration
When I'm out on location I find this is the best time where my creative juices begin to flow. I was quite happy with the way it turned out with the sun setting way out of the bottom right corner of the frame. I just knew because this photo I captured already had some pretty nice atmospheric tones in the foreground, that adding the milky way and stars would give it that "wow" feeling.Editing
I did do some post processing in this image. I shot the foreground at an earlier time in the day and the stars later that night, then merged the two images together using some quick layer masks and hand blending techniques. I did edit each photo individually then began the process of merging after. The foreground I used some quick basic luminosity masks to bring out the lights in the far right stones. I used a few soft light blending techniques to blend some of the tones to give a more "galactic" feel to the image. After merging the two photos I used a few adjustment layers to balance the light a bit more. My final touches were some simple adjustment brushes to darken the horizon, some resizing and sharpening for the web.In my camera bag
I normally head out on location with a few of my favorite lenses. My 24-105 L or my 14mm Samyang prime 2.8 for stars. Ill bring my remote cable release, tripod, some LED torches for light painting and some bear spray of course.Feedback
The biggest piece of advice I could give anyone that wants to capture or create a unique compelling image is to simply follow your own feelings and follow your heart. There are no specific rules in capturing beautiful scenes or creating unique pieces of art. This photo was captured and created based entirely on my own view and my own feelings at that specific moment in time. I had all the intention of portraying atmospheric drama throughout this entire scene. To me this is probably the best way to give the viewers a sense of feeling when first viewing my work. If you can establish that connection of feelings you had at that special moment, and pass those feelings on to the viewers through your work, the photograph will have a much bigger impact.
