Location
This photo was taken at my very first fashion photography workshop that I organized, styled and put together in a studio.Time
This was taken indoors at a studio around 2pm.Lighting
The lighting is incredibly simple. It's just one 500 watt strobe and a vflat. Strobe is to the left of the subject and the vflat to the right. The vflat is on the black side to cast shadow.Equipment
I shot this with my Canon 5D Mark iii using an 85mm lens. No flash, just using the strobe with a remote trigger.Inspiration
This photo was one of my own creations and I really wanted to capture the essence of all the hard work I put into styling it. I custom dyed the backdrop to match the flower headdress that I also made. I created the entire outfit for her. I was going for a whimsical Alice in Wonderland type of mood. I wanted to also inspire the other photographers at my workshop as well with amazing styling for them to capture.Editing
Yes, I processed this first in Lightroom where I did color balancing then brought it into Photoshop to add matte effects as well as more dramatic colors and to achieve the overall mood of the photo. In my camera bag
Just my 5D Mark iii, 85mm lens, 50mm lens, lens cleaner and a reflector. If I am shooting in studio I also have my Pocket Wizard remote trigger.Feedback
1. Styling is everything. You either need to style an over the top look or connect with someone who can 2. The model has to fit the theme and styling of the picture 3. The model has to be able to deliver you the right emotions and poses you are trying to capture. 4. Lighting isn't the most important thing. This was shot in very simple lighting. 5. Pay attention to composition. Notice how just a part of the skirt is caught in the mirror. Any more and it would have been too much, any less and it wouldn't have been what it is. Make sure you pay attention to those small details.
