Behind The Lens

Location

On the Chain Bridge in Budapest this past August.

Time

It was late at night, around midnight.

Lighting

One side of the bridge was closed for a marathon that was to take place the next day so it was a rare phenomenon to be able to walk on the street. But that also meant there were no cars or buses and lighting was poor...it was quite dark.

Equipment

My nikon 50mm 1.4 lens opened up all the way and ISO cranked to 6400. No flash.

Inspiration

I was actually on the bridge taking some long exposure photos of the parliament and the river when I spotted the bride and groom taking pics at the top of the bridge. I immediately switched my landscape lens for the 50mm one and started following them like a proper paparrazo! Eventually they got tired and that's when I saw the bride taking off her shoes. I then started clicking away...I liked the unposed part of it all...I mean you don't see a barefoot bride walking in the middle of one of the most famous bridges in Europe that often do you?

Editing

Really minimal...I lifted some shadows just a bit...that's about it..

In my camera bag

I recently upgraded to the new Nikon d810 and since I had a Dx I had to upgrade my lenses too. So now I carry a 16-35mm nikkor, a 50mm and an 85mm and saving for the 70-200mm nikkor 2.8. I also carry my manfrotto tripod, and too many filters to mention.

Feedback

I think walking around a city at odd hours is great for those unexpected shots. Best to do it alone if you can...I feel pressured to get quick shots when I'm with my husband, so my best shots are always when I'm alone. Don't be afraid to crank up your ISO. most of the new cameras can handle it pretty well.
