En route for my morning coffee, I was distracted by the beautiful sparkle on my kitchen windows. It was so beautiful, that I postponed the mission for coffee and grabbed my camera to get a closer look and capture some of that glimmer.Time
Very early morning in January of 2013, I groggily stumbled into my kitchen for my morning coffee when the sparkle coming from my windows opened my eyes.Lighting
The outdoor light was illuminating that frost so beautifully and the background colours of the outdoors gave it such beautiful tints of browns and blues that I couldn't help but be awed by it.Equipment
This was shot, handheld, from an Olympus E620 with an Olympus macro lens (no flash)Inspiration
Honestly the brilliant sunshine outside was pouring in that window and beginning to warm it, making the frost start to melt and it glistened so distractingly beautifully, I just had to capture it.Editing
I did capture this image in Raw format so I brought it into Adobe Lightroom to convert it. Very minor processing was involved, just a little edge sharpening and some artifact removal, otherwise this is how it came out of the camera. In my camera bag
These days, I have to have my Canon 5D Mark IV and my favourite 70-300 Canon lens. Depending on my mission that day, my Canon 85mm (AMAZING Lens), which gives me fantastic, crisp shots every time! Always keep my variety of Lee filters with me as well and it's all packed safe and sound inside my Canon Shoulder bag.Feedback
In this situation, I believe I just hit the perfect time of day for the sun shooting through that window...maybe scout out a good window that seems to get a lot of frost and watch how the sun hits it during different times of day to get the absolute best light possible. Try different angles, move your body to capture from above or below, and keep the background in mind. I remember that I took a lot of different angled shots so that the colours in the backyard reflected differently. Experiment with what you have and see what you can end up with. You may be surprised!
