Behind The Lens

Location

I shot this Image at Roaring Fork Falls, also called Roaring Creek Falls, a waterfall in the Pisgah National Forest, in North Carolina. And while I do appreciate the honor of receiving this award from Viewbug Editors for the Summer 2020 Image Award; I shot this Image on October 24, 2019 as part of a day-trip/shoot of NC Fall Colors Waterfalls series.

Time

It was mid-morning, about 10:00 am, bright sunny day..... but the waterfall (shooting from the bottom) was in the shadows of the hillsides.

Lighting

Shooting from the bottom of the falls, with the shadows present along most of the falls, but the sun shining on the upper part; I had both a Polarizer and Neutral Density Filters on a 50mm f/1.4 lens.

Equipment

Canon 5DM3 (35mm Full Frame Digital) + Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 + Polarizer and Neutral Density Filters, + Oben CC-2481L Carbon Fiber Lateral Tripod + Oben BB-2 Ball Head.

Inspiration

I have NC Waterfall shots in Spring and Summer, but wanted some NC Waterfalls with some Fall Colors in them....... unfortunately, in this series the Fall Colors does not show up very well..... still very much "green"...... Well, that just means another trip! :)

Editing

I am a FIRM BELIEVER in getting everything you can correctly IN-CAMERA in the FIELD, and doing as little post-processing as possible! Having said that, I do the typical adjustments necessary with RAW Images.

In my camera bag

Cameras: Canon 5DM3 (35mm Full Frame Digital) + Canon Rebel 2000 (35mm Film) + Battery Grip for both, Canon TC-80N3 Intervalometer Timer Remote Controller + SanDisk Extreme Pro CompactFlash Cards + SanDisk Extreme Pro SD Cards. Flash: Canon Speedlite 550EX + Polaris Digital Light Meter.
