Location
The photo was taken on the shore of Viðareiði at the Faroer Islands. You can see the famous church of the village in front of the mountain.Time
It was in the afternoon, during a cloudy and windy day. Somehow the light is always amazing at the Faroer Islands, so you can shoot all day long and still get amazing light.Lighting
I had the idea for a long exposure to transform the clouds into lines. The wind was coming from the right direction, so the clouds would lead the eye towards the mountain. I used a 10 stop filter for this. It allowed me to expose the image for 2 minutes while using ISO 200. It clearly shows how dark the afternoon really was.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 5D mark IV with a Loawa 12mm ultra wide angle lens. At that time I used the Kase Wolverine 10 stop filter. The image was capture on tripod of course. A sturdy one made by Gitzo, to keep the camera steady in these strong winds.Inspiration
I have been inspired by the images of Faroer Islands by Mads Peter Iversen. That's why I visited the islands, among other reasons. I love dark and mysterious photos, and this is another try to capture something that feels a bit similar.Editing
The post processing is mostly done in Lightroom Classic. Fine tune the color balance, and local contrasts. In my camera bag
I use the Canon EOS 5D mark IV with a couple of lenses that allows me to shoot any landscape. A 16-35mm lens, a 24-70mm lens and a 100-400mm are my favourites, all made by Canon. Sometimes I grab my Loawa 12mm for the wide shots.Feedback
Enjoy being in a landscape like this. Don't be afraid of rain or windy situations. Look around and try to see all the elements in the landscape that surrounds you. Don't be hasty, take your time. If you enjoy it, your photos will be better.
