Location
This was taken while standing on the dock at Frontier Lodge near Nordegg Alberta Canada. The lake is called either Shunda Lake or Fish Lake depending on whether or not you want to use the First Nations name for the lake.Time
It was early morning with the sun just managing to throw some direct sunlight on the lake through the trees that surround the lake.Lighting
When we are at Frontier Lodge my wife and I spend most of the early mornings either Kayaking or taking pictures. It is my wife in the Kayak in this image. There is almost always mist/fog on the lake and very warm light coming through the trees. It can provide very nice moody images.Equipment
A Nikon D800E camera with a Nikkor 28-300mm zoom. I was using a tripod as I wanted to be able to shoot at the lowest ISO possible and still get sharp images.Inspiration
I like the lonely feel to the lake in the morning. All is very quiet, there are Loons calling back and forth and often an Osprey fishing for trout. I like the mood and I wanted to convey that mood to the viewer.Editing
In this image there was a little bit of cropping to help composition and I increased contrast a little. In my camera bag
Cameras: Nikon D800E, Olympus Stylus Tough, Nikkor 28-300mm Zoom, SIGMA 150-600mm Zoom, Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 Zoom, Nikkor 50mm, Nikkor 85mm, Nikkor 16mm Fisheye. Filter systems for those lenses that can fit them, 2 wireless remote releases, Manfroto Tripos with a Ball Head Mount.Feedback
One of the things I have learned over the years is that repeated visits to good locations help you understand the light and opportunities that a particular location offers. Don't hesitate to return to special places again and again. There will be times when the light offers extraordinary opportunities and it will be like seeing the place for the first time.
