Location
I was at home in Richmond, Virginia when I shot this. It was just in my backyard.Time
This was mid-day, under the shade of trees.Lighting
This was just shaded daylight, nothing special. :)Equipment
This was shot on my Canon 6D, 56mm. No flash or tripod, just handheld. (with just one hand, obviously)Inspiration
I wanted to come up with a creative way to express my patriotism and appreciation for the freedom we enjoy in the United States. So, in this shot I had painted my hand with watercolors to achieve this look. The background is a cross-section of an old dead tree. I wanted the added texture the wood provided.Editing
I just muted the colors a bit and added matte. Otherwise the photos is basically as shot.In my camera bag
Way too much, really. My wife tells me how heavy my camera bag is. :) I have two Canon cameras, a slew of lenses, flashes, memory cards, etc.Feedback
As in this case, sometimes it works out wonderfully if you combine art mediums.. here, I painted my hand like the flag, and then took a photo. You just have to think about a vision, and expand on it. Write it down, flesh it out. Eventually, you might even dream about it. Then, make it a reality.
