Location
The photo was taken at Lake Tekapo in the South Island of New ZealandTime
Lake Tekapo is famous for the Church of the Good Shepherd. This image was taken at sunset. In December the Lupins are in full bloom and the place is usually full of tourists but I was lucky that at this time most had gone so I largely had the place to myself. Dinner time gets rid of the toruist buses!Lighting
Taken just using natural light.Equipment
Taken using an Olympus OMD-EM1Mk1with the 12-40mm PRO lens at 14mm. ISO800 f5 1/80secInspiration
It's a beautiful place and with the lupins even more attractive. I wanted a shot from a different angle to that which is normally taken from the front of the church.Editing
Shot in jpg. Landscapes require a fair bit of processing so this had a number of changes. It was taken in 2014 so I can't remember all the steps of what I did.In my camera bag
I have been using Olympus OMD cameras since 2013 and am currently using the EM1Mk3. I usually use the 12-100mm PRO lens for it's versatility and for landscapes the Laowa 7.5mm f2 in preference to the 7-14mm as it takes filters and weighs so little. I also usually have the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 lens as well and often the Olympus 45mm f1.8. The advantage with the M43 system is that I can go out with 6 or 7 lenses and still have a fairly light shoulder bag. The image quality matches or surpasses most fullframe cameras especially using the handheld high res modes. I can shoot quite happily at ISO6400 if need be. I don't need a tripod as a rule as I can handhold down to 5 seconds. The special Olympus only modes like the inbuilt ND filter, PROcapture and Live Comp modes are also extremely useful.Feedback
Look at the climate of where you are going and what seasons and what you hope to capture. You can't predict the weather so be prepared to take advantage of anything that you see and be creative.
