Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken near the Lakeshore highway in Toronto. It was during one of the Fuji photo walks.

Time

During spring, which is a great time for photo walks. Most of the day was cloudy and overcast and I was already thinking in black and white as even for spring most of the colours where toned down.

Lighting

Interesting enough, this ramp is normally packed with cars. This was one of the "planet alignment" moments where the traffic light (outside the image) managed to do its job.

Equipment

I always have with me the Fuji X100S with the wide lens converter. There was a lot of light and the image was done hand-held while I was crossing the street. It was doing my right of way crossing with the pedestrian sign green to me. I do believe that great images should be done safely if you plan ahead.

Inspiration

It was less inspiration and more alignment. I was surprised to see the empty ramp with the tower in the background with both highway support elevations framing the image.

Editing

Yes as I always shoot raw. With the day overcast and surrounded by concrete the image was "screaming" to go black and white as it was almost already in grey scale.

In my camera bag

Fuji X100S with the wide lens converter and a Canon 5DmkII with a 100-400mm (Canon), 50mm 1.4 (Sigma) and a 85mm1.4 (Zeiss)

Feedback

Always be safe. Your life is more important than any image or any quantity of likes. Avoid dangerous stunts to try to capture a great photo (specially when crossing a street). Shoot with both eyes open (thanks Kristian Bogner) and it will let you see what happens around you and outside the camera lens view area. Try to plan ahead what image you would like to shoot and do it safely. It does require more patience and time, but it works, and you will do great.
