Behind The Lens
Location
The photo was taken in Downtown Toronto in the financial district. I was really close to the building (almost touching it) and in a standing position. The building scale and shape helped to provide a forced perspective.Time
It was in the afternoon, nowhere close to the golden hour. I was walking on a bright day with harsh contrast due the patch of clouds. It was probably close to 2:30pm in late December.Lighting
In this financial district, there are glass towers everywhere. It creates amazing light reflections and light hot spots. Due the building geometry it looks like, some areas have artificial studio lights which enhances the visual contrast.Equipment
This image was shot handheld with a Canon 5D mkII and a 8-15mm lens (rented). No filter was used.Inspiration
What I like about this photo is that the buildings shown at the top area are in reality located across the street. This was my first experience with an ultra-wide lens.Editing
Lightroom has been by best friend (in photography). The image was converted to black and white and sharpening, clarity and a little bit of noise reduction was applied to the image. Dodge was used in the central vertical line to reinforce the perspective effect. In my camera bag
Normally a Fuji X100s for practical reasons. I also carry the Canon 5Dmk II with a 100-400mm (Canon) and a 50mm 1.4 (Sigma). For this image I rented a 8-15mm lens that now is on my buyers wishlist :)Feedback
It is nice to be able experiment with different lenses, as it helps to find which ones are fit for you and which ones are not. And if you are on a budget like me, I would recommend that renting a lens gives you a unique opportunity to test what is available in the market without breaking your bank account or putting yourself in trouble with your better half :)
