This was taken at the Frome Indepenents market, in Somerset.Time
This was taken in the early afternoon on a slighlty overcast autumn day.Lighting
It had been a lovely sunny day, but the cloiuds had started to gather so by this point the strong light had faded to a reasonably bright but even overcast.Equipment
This was taken with my Olympus E3 and a 40-150mm zoom (80-300mm equivalent). This was handheld as there was no room for a tripod in a busy street market.Inspiration
This was taken on a day out with the Bristol Photgraphy Meetup Group. This was a challenge day where particpants are given a list of five topics and a few hours to take photos to represent those topics. This was taken to match the topic 'Hustle and Bustle'. The market is usually very busy, so I found a quiet-ish spot at the back of the stalls and tried to capture the frantic activity of the stall holders and their customers.Editing
This was processed using Photoshopand Topaz filters. I converted the orginal image to black and white, then adjusted the opacity to allow some of the colour back into the image. This gave some pastel shades that suited the mid-autumn feel of the day. I then enhanced the contrast to give some stronger outlines and to enhance the steam coming from the cooking pots.In my camera bag
For these challenge outings I usually travel light and have my Olympus E3 and a 40-150mm (80-300 equivalent) and 14-42mm (28-84 equivalent) zoon lenses. The only other thing I routinely carry is a circular polariser.Feedback
This is all about taking a different viewpoint and trying to capture a particular moment. I waited for several minutes trying to capture the right mix of activity people and the steam from the cooking. Patience is a definite virtue in these situations. It also helps to stand quietly out of the way so that people don't notice you.
