While I was in Boulder, CO on vacation I woke up at 3:30am and headed to Rocky Mountain National Park. I saw on my weather app the night before that the park was suppose to have AM rain showers so I was hoping i was going to get some great looking clouds to reflect the color of the sunrise. I waked along the west shore of Bear Lake until I found a place with some cool looking rocks i could use as a foreground element. As i hoped that morning had amazing looking clouds over Longs Peak. Just before sunrise the sky light up red for about 1minute. It was a very beautiful sunrise and I am very thankful I saw it and was able to capture it.

Location
I took this image at Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park.Time
I woke up at 3:30am so I could get to this location in time for sunrise.Lighting
I took this image just before the sun popped up over the mountain ridges so I was able to capture the whole dynamic range in a singe image.Equipment
I used my Nikon D800, with a Nikon 16-35mm f/4, on my Manfrotto 190PROCX4 Tripod. I also used my Nikon MC-36A cable release to make sure there was no camera shake and to make an exposer over 30 seconds.Inspiration
For months I was planning my trip to Rocky Mountain NP and reaching the best locations for photography. I kept coming back to Bear Lake because it had such an outstanding view of Longs Peak.Editing
Yes, I used Lightroom CC for basic color correction. In my camera bag
Nikon D800, Nikon 7100, Nikon 70-200mm F/2.8, Nikon 16-35mm F/4, Sigma 35mm F/1.4, Nikon SB-910, Manfroto 190PROCX4 Tripod, Nikon MC-36A, Lee Big Stopper, B+W CP Filter Pocketwizards Plus III (x2).Feedback
Make sure you wake up early to catch the best light. Use a tripod and a cable release to make sure there is no camera shake. Go to www.blueridgeimagery.com to check out more of my work
