After Virginia received the first snowfall of the year, my family and I headed to the the Blue Ridge Mountains to explore the wonders of the snow covered mountains. The sky normally lights up once the sun dips behind the mountain ridges, but this night, there wasn't that much color. About 20 minutes after sunset, I was just about to pack up my gear when the sky finally caught on fire for less than two minutes. This is part of a 7-image panorama.

I used my Nikon D800, with a Nikon 70-200mm on my Manfrotto 190PROCX4 Tripod. I also used my Nikon MC-36A cable release to make sure there was no camera shake.Inspiration
I've seen a few pictures from this location during the summer but i thought it would be a great location for a winter image. So over the first snow of the year I headed out to make this image.Editing
Yes, I used Lightroom CC for basic color correction and I stitched the 7 images together in Photoshop CC.In my camera bag
Nikon D800, Nikon 7100, Nikon 70-200mm F/2.8, Nikon 16-35mm F/4, Sigma 35mm F/1.4, Nikon SB-910, Manfroto 190PROCX4 Tripod, Nikon MC-36A, Lee Big Stopper, B+W CP Filter, Pocketwizards Plus III (x2).Feedback
Make sure your batteries are fully charge because the cold makes them drain a lot faster. Also it pays to wait around for the color, but make sure you are ready because if and when it come it disappears fast.
