Would not like to be on the wrong side of this bird! Beautiful detail!

Location
I have been shooting this juvenile bald eagle for many years. He lives at a local sanctuary for injured and orphaned birds. His wing was broken by another eagle. He loves people, although you'd never know it to look at this shot!Time
This shot was mid to late afternoon. I try to maximize the amount and angle of the light in his enclosure.Lighting
Biggest challenge is shooting through the tight screen around him. I use a long zoom and wait till he is far enough from the screen, then it will drop out!Equipment
I used a Canon 6D handheld, with a 100-400mm zoom lens with existing light.Inspiration
This bird has so much personality. He loves to get his picture taken. His coloring and features are striking! It's a treat just to watch him from this close and a privilege to be able to capture his majesty!Editing
Post-processing for this shot was limited to color saturation and darkening background to focus on him! Later, I could try BW, high contrast and other techniques. In my camera bag
Usually carry two cameras, the 6D and a Sony Nexus 7, with macro, for close ups!...also bean bag, for low shutter speed shots.Feedback
Be patient. Take lots of shots, especially bursts when everything is right...i.e. expression, angle, lighting, focus. Always be aware of the background! Look for something unique or different! Be persistent, but also open to unexpected opportunity!
