Location
This picture was taken on the grounds of a castle in my home town, this particular shot was taken up against a metal gate to the castle.Time
The time of day for this image was key. I took the shot on a late winters afternoon as the sun was beginning to go down and was really low in the sky. I needed to use the sun as the main source of light for this shot and positioned it behind myself and shining over my shoulder onto the models face.Lighting
For the whole of this shoot, I was only using natural sunlight with no bounce board, the light was amazing and really lit up the models face evenly and with a nice wintery tone.Equipment
I used my trusty Canon Eos 70d with 50mmf 1.4 combo for this image, I also had with my my 35mm film camera and took various shots on that and this picture was edited in black and white to look similar to one of those.Inspiration
This photo was inspired by the model, who is a young and rising model, finding her way in the industry and getting lots of attention. She is a personal friend of mine and the shoot was a mutual favour for both of our portfolios.Editing
This shot was processed on Photoshop to remove blemishes and for a minor airbrush and then I used Lightroom to try and perfect the earlier mentioned winter light and add the black and white effect. In my camera bag
My camera contains on average about 4 lenses and 2 camera bodies depending on the shoot. I am a massive fan of shooting 35mm film in black and white so I will also take with my my canon eos 650 and 35-105mm lens for that. I will have my canon eos 70d body and several lenses to use that including the 18-135mm kit lens, a telephoto such as 75-300mm and my nifty 50mm f1.4 which is also a great lens to use on my 650. That's basically it as well as the inclusion of all my media (8-10 SD cards 32gb and 2 canisters of Kodak BW400CN film)Feedback
This shot deffinately requires patience and a good relationship with the model whether professional or personal. It was very cold so the model had to be kept in high spirits, I did this by offering her a pub lunch after the shoot and lending her my coat for walking in between locations. The patience part is waiting for the sun to bit the right point in the sky and then positioning your model and yourself so that you do not cast a shadow over her but you and in the middle of her and the sun.
