Behind The Lens

Location

Wooten Park Tavares Florida

Time

Sunrise just as the sun came over the horizon.

Lighting

I have shot this location many times. However, on this day the lighting and clouds were simply amazing. I just could not stop looking at it.

Equipment

Nikon D300, Nikon DX10-24mm lens, B&W circular polarizing filter, wired shutter release, Slik 700dx tripod with Acratech Inc. Ultimate Ballhead.

Inspiration

The City of Tavares is America's Seaplane City. I was looking for a picture to capture the essence of our wonderful city.

Editing

I used light room to turn down the highlights, bring up the shadows, added clarity, vibrancy, increased sharpness, reduced noise, lens corrections, profile and chromatic aberrations corrections.

In my camera bag

Nikon D300, Nikon D7100, Nikon DX 10-24mm lens, Nikon 17-55dx 2.8, Nikon 35mm 1.8, nikon 50mm 1.8, nikon 85mm 1.8,Nikon 70-300mm, nikon 80-400mm. Sb600 flash, 3 batteries each camera, wired and wireless shutter releases. Sekonic I-478DR meter plus 5 degree spot meter, B+W filters 110,102,103, Lowpro backpack. When Landscaping only leave long glass in the truck. Favorite lens 10-24mm hands down.

Feedback

If possible visit the site in advance of your shoot. I like to walk around with my camera looking through the view finder constantly. Vary height, zoom, for different points of view. If you are just visiting use something like The Photographers Ephemeris on your smart phone to help pick out the direction of the sun and moonlight. View hourly weather forecast on the weather channel for that area. Dress yourself and your gear for those conditions. Move, move, move. New photographers get caught up in getting the shot they picked out perfect. My advice.. The shot you leave the most happy with is usually a surprise. Keep looking for the surprise. Happy shooting.
