Behind The Lens

Location

The metal shepherds crook in my backyard was warm from the sun and the Gecko likes to hang out there showing off his colors.

Time

Mid afternoon when the sun swings around to the back garden.

Lighting

The sunlight is filtered through the dense leaves on the trees and often yields soft muted tones which is helpful.

Equipment

I use a Nikon D5100 camera with a Nikor 55 - 300 mm VR Zoom lens that allows one to focus through the lens quickly.

Inspiration

My background in biology always prompts me to search for small animals, birds, lizards, insects, butterflies, and tree frogs, that happen to pass by in my back yard and this Gecko is a constant nearby resident.

Editing

Not much. I try and sharpen the image if it needs it.

In my camera bag

I travel light and just have my camera, a battery charger, an extra battery, and some memory disks.

Feedback

Often you just have to sit, read a book, be patient, notice small movements, and have your camera ready to record the passing scene. Photography is fun and I enjoy sharing my images with others. Keep on shooting and good things will happen.
