Location
At that time historically, we were allowed to drive our cars onto Vilano Beach in St Augustine, Florida. As we were parking our car the heavens opened up with strong wind and rain. Everyone suddenly abandoned the beach, jumped into their cars, and drove away. The lifeguard stand and the flag that designated the swimming area boundary appealed to my eye. I took one quick shot and left. This has been one of my favorite images. I had the image enlarged to three feet by five feet and mounted on canvas. The image hangs proudly in my home office. Recent hurricanes have limited driving on some beaches.Time
I took the image just at noontime.Lighting
The lighting was typical of a Florida day with a rainstorm moving in, as residual blue skies still existed in the distance.Equipment
My Nikon D5100 camera with a 55 - 300 DX SWM VR Zoom lens allows for quick framing and focusing of the desired image. I hand-hold my images and do not use a tripod. I usually carry an extra memory chip and battery with me.Inspiration
I enjoy being on the water, living near it, boating, and fishing opportunities provide me with a great deal of pleasure. This image was a fast moment in time to record the scene.Editing
The telephoto lens allows me to crop the image on the fly. Yes, I increased the clarity of the image slightly. In my camera bag
I travel lightly with a spare battery and memory chip in my pocket.Feedback
My early training as a biologist taught me to observe any detectable motion of animals and plants in the environment. Being a curious person, interested in things that appeal to the eye is fun. Don't miss an opportunity to take the shot as you can edit the results at a later time. Have your camera with you, as you never know when the right moment might occur.
