Behind The Lens

Location

My garden has a number of Calla Lillies and their leaves unroll in a tube like fashion. The green tree frogs often find the water droplets in the leaves make a good place to hide and relax. Most of the tree frogs are no bigger than the tip of your thumb. The tree frog in the image was deeper in the leaf and I gently squeezed the back of the leaf to have the frog move forward so I could take the picture. He was a happy fellow and stayed in that leaf for two days.

Time

Early in the morning.

Lighting

Natural lighting as the sun rose was available.

Equipment

I hand held my Nikon DX5100 camera with a 55 - 300 VR mm lens.

Inspiration

Originally trained as a biologist, I always am alert to the movements of small creatures in my environment. Tree frogs are loud creatures croaking before and after a rain event. While small in size they make a fairly loud croaking noise.

Editing

I shot about 15 images of the tree frog and cropped the image choosing the best one.

In my camera bag

I travel light with camera in hand and a extra battery and memory chip in my pocket.

Feedback

Be patient, look for movement, sounds, or anything that catches your attention. Be ready to capture the moment and take a number of shots that can be edited at a later time.
