Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in the fall at Banff National Park, in the Canadian Rockies. Which is an awe inspiring place to be, nature at it's best.

Time

I was walking along the shore of the Bow River with just a camera in my hands. It must have been late morning. The sun kept playing peek-a-boo with the clouds. As I stopped to take my picture, the sun came out on queue. That was a lucky break.

Lighting

It had been cloudy for the most of the morning. Towards the end of the morning the sun was coming in and out. It decided to stay out just when I took the picture which was great the way the light reflected off the rough waves.

Equipment

The shot was taken with a Canon 70D,18-55mm lens. I did not have my tripod with me at the time but was lucky to have a railing which to sit my camera on since the shutter speed I used was 1/30 of a second.

Inspiration

As I was walking along the river I spotted this one tree all by itself, which in it self is strange to see. It looked as though it was crying for help as the waves kept getting closer and closer to the tree even though it was high enough. I took several shots to get the waves crashing the way they did. It was just an awe inspiring picture as wave after wave kept crashing towards the tree.

Editing

Conditions were just favorable that I just did some color balancing.

In my camera bag

I carry a Tamron 10-24 mm wide angle , Tokina 100m for macro's, and I have replaced my Canon 18-55 & 55-250 lenses with aTamron 16-300mm lens. I also carry an assortment of ND filters and cleaning kit.

Feedback

I like to take mostly landscape pictures. There are two thing you need to be prepared for, one is patience which you can't fit in your bag and the other is being prepared for everything else. Since you are the mercy of the elements you need to anticipate as much as you can ahead of time. As much as we all like to shoot at sunrise and sunset the golden hours, you have to accept a harsh sun at times. Carry a polarizer or ND filters is an example to be prepared.
