I don't mind shooting in the rain because there are plenty of reflections to be found.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the Leipzig, Germany, in the district of Connewitz.

Time

I must have shot this image in the late afternoon after dropping off my daughter at dance lessons. The graffiti wall to the right of this image belongs to the activity center where my daughter attended dance lessons at this time.

Lighting

It was a miserable day out, and the sky was a giant dull softbox that lit everything but with low contrast.

Equipment

Canon 6D with a Sigma 24mm 1.4 art lens.

Inspiration

It was such a miserable day out but I liked the graffiti and the symmetry of this empty street. I saw a puddle and wanted a reflection so stuck my camera in it and took a shot.

Editing

I always post process my images and I must have played with the shadows, highlights, and contrast in this one.

In my camera bag

It varies and this day I probably just had my camera with the one lens.

Feedback

I like capturing reflections from puddles, and the best way to do this is to stick my camera in or behind a puddle. Before I stick my camera in a puddle, I get my aperture, shutter, and ISO settings balanced, switch on a 2-sec timer, set my focus, and then place/compose my camera in or behind a puddle.
