Location
I captured this image at Sombrio Beach on Vancouver Island. The beach is about 100km northwest of Victoria.Time
I woke up on this day extremely hungover because I was camping on the beach with a group of friends for my 30th birthday. We decided to explore the area, to walk off our hangovers and we stumbled upon this stream flowing into the ocean, so we decided to follow it to its source. To the best of my recollection, I'm pretty sure that this photo, was taken at around noon.Lighting
The sun was close to directly overhead and lit the area up quite nicely.Equipment
Canon t3i, kit lens, and a tripod. Despite the old saying "it's not the camera it's the photographer", I still wish I was better equipped when I was there.Inspiration
There was no way I was leaving this place without taking a photo. I felt as though, I was experiencing some kind of hangover fairytale and I was just waiting for Smurfs to offer me a bloody mary. The air in this half cave type, waterfall place, was so fresh it killed my hangover.Editing
I always edit using Camera Raw, in Photoshop. I definitely adjusted the shadows, saturation, and tried to fix the sharpness. When something's not sharp, it's pretty hard to get around it. I still really like this image, and it's one of my favorites that I've taken. In my camera bag
My bag is always changing and when I took this shot I carried a t3i, 18-55mm kit, EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II - Canon , 50mm 1.8 - Canon and a tripod. I now carry a 6D, 70D, Sigma EX 70-200mm / 2,8 DG OS HSM , Sigma 24mm F1.4 DG HSM | A, Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, strobe and a tripod. My bag is quite heavy when I go out to shoot now.Feedback
I shot this on a t3i on a tripod, iso 100 at f22 to get a long exposure in a bright area. Get some ND filters. Learn to shoot in manual, learn how to use Photoshop or Lightroom, use a tripod, learn how to use your camera and shoot shoot shoot.
