Location
This photo was captured in Dresden, Germany. The castle is called the Dresden Zwinger. I really like old architecture, especially castles, and Germany has lots of them.Time
This was shot during a night walk in Dresden. I was staying only a few blocks from the Zwinger, and I took this shot on my way back from the walk. I managed to perch my tripod on a grassy hill that was declining down toward the moat of the castle. I figured it was a good angle to get a decent reflection. I definitely want to go back to Dresden, and specifically dedicate my time there for night photography.Lighting
The Zwinger had a lot of its own lights, and it was also being lit from the street. I believe a little less light would have made for a better photo. I really liked the way it looked, with my own eyes. I tried my best to replicate what I saw with an image.Equipment
I used a Canon 70D with a 15-85mm EFS lens on a tripod.Inspiration
It's a castle and I really like castles.Editing
I processed the image in Photoshop camera raw editor and tweaked the white balance, highlights, shadows, details, colours and reduced the noise a little. In my camera bag
Canon 70D with a 15-85mm EFS lens, tripod, steel wool, flashlights, flash, couple beers, etc.Feedback
Look for interesting places to go for walks, find something you like looking at and try and capture what you like about it. Shoot using manual focus, and take off image stabilization when shooting long exposures. Shoot in manual mode, use a tripod of course and shoot until you get a few exposures your happy with. It's always good to shoot at ISO 100, but if you got to bump it up, bump it up. Not every location has this much light. I think it's as easy as knowing your camera and looking for cool places to shoot and then shooting.
