Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on a new road (so not much traffic) near my seaside house, i chose it because of the new pavement, the little trees and the space around, and of course because of its quietness.

Time

It was in the afternoon, the sun was going down but it was not sunset yet, i had good shadows, long but not too much

Lighting

I used the natural light only, that was just fine for this image, and strong enough to let me have a fast shutter speed to freeze the moment

Equipment

I used my old Fujifilm Finepix S2 Pro, an old glory, it was my first digital SRL, with a Sigma wide angle zoom (i can't remember its name, it's a long time ago). I used my Manfrotto 190 Pro tripod and a remote trigger

Inspiration

I was obsessed by one concept: time for oneself, the time one has to fight for, to be free, in a wolrd where everything is killing your time. I was expressing the strong will to escape from everything and get free to do what I want. And I started thinking about the best way to express this concept. I've tried other ones, and eventually i came to this setup. I put on a formal dress (representing jobs and time killing world) and i pictured myself while taking the dress off and breaking free. I remember I had to take many photos before I could be satisfied.

Editing

The post processing here is very little, just brightness and colour balance adjustments, to get a warmer feel, connected to the positive feel I wanted to convey

In my camera bag

My bag is very variable, sometimes I go out with a small camera and one single lens (a 50 mm or a 35 mm), and in other occasions it's a very heavy burden, with two bodies, many lenses, tripods and strobes. Sometimes I just can't do it all alone, and I need an assistant. I rarely leave at home a 50 mm or an 85 mm anyway.

Feedback

Find your own way to express a concept, if you are willing to. Go and search for the solutions that other people have found to express it, but try to find your way, the one that resonates with your experience, your way of being. I find on the web good ideas that stimulate other ideas in my mind, that are original and make me feel... happy It's not guaranteed that you can achieve your goal (I'm still seeking for ways of expressing some ideas I have) but when you succeed it's fantastic and the road to it is always an experience. Even failures are part of the journey.
