Location
This photo has been taken in my homeTime
It was in the afternoon in a cloudy day of september, the light coming from the window was very soft and gentle and my cat was just looking outsideLighting
Light was soft, coming from a very large window and with an overcast day there was not much contrast in it, so it was easy to manage, i also used a white reflector to reduce shadows.Equipment
Shot with a Nikon D700 with a 70-300 Nikkor lens set at 230 mm using natural light and handheld at 1/100th and f:5,6, ISO was quite high because of the low light, 1600 ISO.Inspiration
My cat is always a great source of inspiration, she's got a very strong personality, you can tell her mood of the moment, and this time she was kinda melancholic, making for a perfect comparison with human beings (it could be anyone at home in this quarantine days looking out of the window and hoping to be able to go out soon) It is a quick reaction to something happening around rather than a thought in advance photo, in any caseEditing
Yes i did, but very basic adjustments for contrast and conversion to BW, which is the most important part. I use adobe camera raw inside photoshop to convert to BW and i adjust the amount of the single colours, and i also apply some clarity and dehaze locally, all very simpleIn my camera bag
I have many bags each one thought for a specific need. No all purpose bags. For my fashion photoshoot on location it's a very heavy weel bag with one camera, a 24-70 mm a 85 mm f:1,4 and a 80-200 mm f:2,8 generally, and Godox AD600 and AD200 Pro strobes with tripods for my travels it's a much lighter bag with my mirrorless camera and wideangle, street and tele lenses, a couple of filters and a small tripod. when i go around Rome with my bike it's even smaller and it is a backpack bag....Feedback
For pets photography i think the most important thing i can say is to keep a camera always near you, because the right moment will not last forever and you have to be quick to capture it. even a mobile phone can be ok, if the quality is good enough. Right time is much more important than technique. Auto ISO helps to avoid excessive camera shake when you have no time to use a tripod. I sometimes leave my camera on a tripod ready to shoot in a specific place my cat loves in the morning, when the sun gen in from the window, and i know that by observing its behaviour. I did this way during my quarantine and with a lot of patience i could capture very interesting photos
