Location
I took this photo on the Ostia seaside, along the sand dunes, a location that i chose for portraying the beautiful actress Crisula Stafida. With sand dunes i could opt for a lower point of view and have the sky as the only backgroundTime
It was on a beautiful july afternoon, we started around three hours before sunset and we finished at sunset, thin one was taken at the beginning f the photoshotLighting
Light was very contrasty and harsh, i had to take a reflector with me to soften shadows a little bit. It was windy so i had to keep the reflector in my hands to avoid it flying away. And in the images like this one sunglasses were not an option, they were necessaryEquipment
I shot with a Nikon D700 with 24-70 f:2,8 lens, in manual mode, no tripod no flash, i exposed for the lights and softened the shadowsInspiration
I was seeking for a fresh vintage lifestyle look, like the one you could find in american magazines of the sixtiesEditing
Post processing is very important in this image, i had to reduce contrast and to tone it acconding to the style i had in mind, the vintage american magazineIn my camera bag
I have a very variable bag, each shoot has its unique requirements. Here for instance i did not need any light (except for the reflector) and any tripod, it was a very light bag, with two lenses, the 24-70 mm and 85 mm f:1,4 for headshots In other cases my bag is really heavy, i can carry three light stands, 1 tripod, 3 strobes and up to 5 lenses. And i can also take with me an ipad that i connect to the camera to shoot wirelessly tethered.Feedback
Working in a bright sunny afternoon requires a strong control on exposure, do not trust your eyes, always look at the histogram to see if you lest detail in highlights or in shadows. And go for a sacrifice in the shadows rather than in highlights. It is easier to recover shadows, while it's impossible to get anything from burnt highlights.
