Location
I took it in my backyard which has an English Teagarden layout.Time
I started this set of photos at night.Lighting
The lighting is an octagonal light stand. I love using this stand for my moodier type of looks because of how it softens the look on the model.Equipment
I used my Canon 70D with a Canon 50mm lens and octagonal light stand.Inspiration
The model is a good friend of mine and is known in LA as one of the top goth models to work with. She loves Beetlejuice and and the Jonny Depp version of Dark Shadows, so I asked her to recreate some of the poses of Lydia and Barnabas Collins.Editing
I did the post process in both Lightroom and Photoshop. I find I am able to work more easily with light and color correction in Lightroom. Then I finish with the finer details such as airbrush, dodge and burn in photoshop. In my camera bag
I never leave the house without my camera, 50mm, 18-135mm, 4 memory cards, an extra battery, battery charger, gray card or my flash. All of these will allow me to capture what I need no matter where I go.Feedback
When attempting to recreate a photo, you still want to be sure to change it up a little bit. Add yourself in the photo whether it means changing up the look in post process, or changing the style of the pose. The point of mimicing a photo is to honor the original photographer’s art, not to steal their work.
