Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at the Yarkon Park, Israel. I was trying to capture birds and this was one of my best shots.

Time

Although I prefer taking photos early at the morning or near to the sunset, this time it was taken at the middle of the day, I had a hike at the park and had my camera with me, I was lucky that there were enought trees to cast shadow all around that created an opportunity to catch this shot.

Lighting

The only thing I can say that I am a huge fan of natural light, all of my shots are in this type of light. I do believe that you can take a good shot even at the "harshest" time of the day, you just need to understand how the light works.

Equipment

For this photo I used my Canon mark III and 85 1/8 lens. I had to stay quiet for long minutes inorder to get closer to the birds and not scare it away, even though my lens is not that good for a wildlife photography I am really proud that I could manage to make it with this type of lens.

Inspiration

I wanted to do something that I didn't tried before, I am a nature lover and I was inspired by interesting animal and birds shots with the motion,the action and the story behind. When I took this photo I just got my new camera and lens,after using a semi-professional camera and that was the first time I tried it out, instead of taking photos of resting birds I was trying to capture a movement, something that will catch the eye and make an interesting scene.

Editing

I did a post-processing, some color correction, sharpness and dodge-burn technique.

In my camera bag

Normaly my bag have my Canon mark III camera and two lens canon 85mm 1/8 and 24mm 2.8. Lately I've added a macro 100mm 2.8. I bought my equipment in order to answer my needs, landscape-nature and portrait photography.

Feedback

My advice - have a lot of patience. You can have a lucky shot on the first try but you also can spend some time in order to get the perfect shot, no need to feel frustrated if it didn't work at the few first tries. Focus, use a tripod if needed, make sure your camera parameters(ISO, shutter, aperture) are exactly what you need so when the time comes all you have to do is to click a button and would not need to waste your time on putting out the needed parameters and by that increase the chance to loose the shot oyu wanted. Make sure you are comfortabe, be as focused on the "target" as you can. Another thing is that you can use a semi-autumatic regimes such as shutter-aperture preference, that wil also reduce the time you will waste before you take a perfect shot.
