Location
This photo was taken in Mount Vernon, Washington at the start of the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.Time
I drove two hours to get there early. The fog had just lifted when I made this picture.Lighting
The lighting was fairly diffused due to the fog, which made for a more pleasing image.Equipment
This was made using a Nikon D7100 and Nikon 10-24mm lens. Hand held, no flash.Inspiration
This is one of the events I look forward to each year, even if I don't get to go! There are acres and acres of multi-colored tulips. It's just a beautiful place! If you go, try to go during the week to avoid the crowds.Editing
I used minor post processing in Lightroom 5.In my camera bag
My only gear right now is the Nikon D7100, and 18-140mm and 10-24mm zoom. I also use a Manfrotto 190XPROB tripod which I've found is a good compromise between weight and sturdiness. I also like the fact that it can get very low to the ground.Feedback
I try to capture images from unuusual perspectives. For this one, there was enough light so that I hand held the camera as low to the ground as I could while framing with the rear LCD. Normally, I would use a tripod. It's a good idea to bring some kind of a mat to kneel or lay down on as it can be muddy.
