This photo was taken in the State Capitol building in Arkansas, a day or two past Christmas. The Christmas Decorations were partially taken down when I looked up at the ceiling and this sight transfixed me. Much to security's dismay, I lay flat on my back and captured this imageTime
On a dark and cold late winter's afternoon, I went inside the state capitol, whose walls and floors are mostly marble and gleaming white, unlike the gold ceiling inside the domeLighting
The lighting with all white walls and floors should have created too harsh of lighting but the gold ceiling and frosted lights worked out just rightEquipment
Just my Nikon Coolpix P510 on close up settings without flash. Handheld while laying on my back on the floor shooting straight upInspiration
I went inside the capitol post Christmas on a weekend evening hoping to find Christmas decor still up but was disappointed. I had never really looked at the inside of the Capitol dome and realized how beautiful it was and loved the symmetry and lines and figures of the whole thing, chandelier ceiling and all.Editing
There is nothing more than a slight contrast tweak to give it a little sharpnessIn my camera bag
I only carry my Nikon Coolpix P510 and occasionally my manfroto monopod.Feedback
For this photo, or something similar, I think you just need to look at any area with "fresh eyes" at all times. I had taken pics inside the Capitol twice before and had never noticed the ceiling with the chandelier from this viewpoint or angle.
