Location
The photo was taken in a field adjacent to a children's park on Daniel Island, South Carolina.Time
This photo was taken at about 5:00pm in the fall. I remember that the light was quickly slipping behind the trees and I was trying to get in a few "fun" shots before the kids got to tired.Lighting
This photo was taken using only the natural light available. I had encouraged the boys to run and play while I followed with my camera trying to capture that perfect candid moment.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D750 with a 50mm 1.8 lens.Inspiration
Often when shooting posed family photos you get that "posed" smile. I wanted to capture the connection between two brothers that can only be seen when they are truly having fun with each other. I was very pleased with the outcome. Tired but pleased.Editing
I used Lighroom5 to slightly desaturate the image overall and then increase the saturation in the blues only. I like the look that is achieved when saturating selective colors in a photo. In my camera bag
I carry my Nikon D750 with a minimum of two lenses at all times. A 50mm 1.8 Nikkor and 24-120mm are always with me. I also have my external flash, f-stoppers flash disc diffuser, extra batteries, extra memory cards and my trusty Gorilla-pod (because you never know when you might need to mount your camera to a tree or something).Feedback
Put on your running shoes, relax. The more you are relaxed the more comfortable your subject will likely be. Be patient and let the kids be kids. Some of my best photos are captured this way.
