Location
I took this at Riverpark Square, a city park in Spokane, WA. All these children are strangers to me.Time
This was taken during a really hot summer day around 2 p.m. There were about 20 children playing in the fountain.Lighting
Natural lighting only.Equipment
I used a Sony Nex-6 with a 17-55mm lens. No tripod.Inspiration
I have been to this park numerous times looking for some interesting photo ops. On this day, I browsed around and finally sat down on a bench about 30 yards from this huge fountain. Children were everywhere, running around and loving it. I just focused and started shooting.Editing
I only used a few sliders from iphoto. It appears to be a B/W shot, but it isn't. The silhouettes were very effective here I thought. In my camera bag
I carry a shoulder bag with my Sony Nex-6 and four lenses, a 17-55mm, 50-200mm, 14mm and fish-eye. I also carry several extra batters and memory cards. I sometimes use a bean bag for stabilization but have difficulty with my tripod.Feedback
I was sitting on a bench and attracted no attention from the kids or parents. I was quite surprised when I saw the results of these photos on my computer. I hadn't realized the sun was so in front of me and that they would all be silhouettes. However, the end result was much better, I think. The only advice I can really give to capture something like this is to not over-think situations and just take the shots. Some work and some don't, but it's always exhilarating when it comes together in a nice image.
