Location
I took this at school. It was not a school project, but mostly practice and a friend of mine agreed to be practiced on. Good sport.Time
I believe around 10 or 11am. You know what? It was indoors so lets say "I don't remember."Lighting
I used two softboxes on either side. One at 3/4 the power and the other at 1/4 the power. They used compact florescent lights. I will also say they were a pain in the ass to put together. Took about 30 minutes. Stop being hard, lights! I'm trying to do things!Equipment
I used a Canon 60D with the kit lens, a 18-135mm. I did not use a tripod. I attempted to do it tethered but flow wise, it didn't work. I also used pizza to lure in my model.Inspiration
This particular shot was luck and not planned. I am not much of a planner and just make it up I go, which is usually my style. I got these goggles a long time ago from Restoration Hardware and have used it as a prop in many and sometimes my unofficial symbol or logo. I enjoy the retro look. The goggles however contribute only a little compared to the expression my model (Lindsi) makes. I am not sure what inspired to make this face or the other ones really. We just had interesting conversations that I am guessing just brought out those expressions. Laughter, confusion, cravings for pizza, it was just an interesting session. In conclusion: I had a camera so I pushed the trigger.Editing
I am a shameless post-processor. And often do more than I probably should. I even go back to change and update past work because my taste keeps changing (which was how my other photo, "Prom Night II," came to be). I used Lightroom 5 and adjusted light and black to make the background black as possible and adjusted contrast slightly for the skin details. I had to use the brush to fix the reflection in the left lens to make more even with the right. I used Intensify to finalized the detail. In my camera bag
My camera, 19-135mm, 50mm, a battery grip, and some memory cards. Model won't fit.Feedback
Plan but don't plan too much or all the fun is taken away from photography. It is better to imagine your photo on what it could be instead of what you want it to be. I also enjoy this quote from Pete Collins: “Comparison is the theif of joy.”
