Love the composition on this. It seems to break so many rules and yet works

Location
In my "studio" (bedroom).Time
Probably about 3am, as that is when most of my creativity takes place.Lighting
This entire shot was lit with one small off-camera flash. The backdrop, white walls and ceiling, and floor helped to bounce the light around.Equipment
Canon 60D, 18-55mm canon kit lens, 430exii, and shoot-through white umbrella, and a backdrop.Inspiration
Seeing other creative portraits in art stores and on websites like Viewbug, I wanted to take on something completely unique. This photo was not the plan, as it turns out this was an extra one I had taken that turned out the best. I find that my best photos were not thought out, but just sort of happened.Editing
I adjusted the lighting a little bit. I almost always shoot in raw, just to add some sharpening and lighting adjustments. In my camera bag
Camera, lens, and flash. Thats it. My off-camera flash is my favorite piece for portraits, as I can do anything I want with lights.Feedback
Be original, and be spontaneous. If you have an idea, shoot it. Portraits have always been my favorite, because capturing an exact expression can be an extreme challenge. I find self-portraits easier, because I don't have to attempt to explain my idea to someone, I can just do it myself. However, I get bored of my own face easily and it can be fun and challenging to attempt to share your ideas with someone. Explain to them the expressions you want, and see how they interpret it. You might find you like their ideas better then yours. ALWAYS be open to others opinions and ideas. You aren't the best artist in the world. Be open to what others have to say. And of course, have fun! When you are enjoying yourself, it will show in the quality of your work.
