Here is something we can learn from geopapa about the techniques and story behind this awarded photo.
geopapa: "My true passion is photography. I enjoy the freedom I experience when I go shooting. On that day, at that moment, my surroundings are my canvas & the camera is my brush, as I try to find my next "painting". It is my escape from everything.."
1. geopapa, where did you take this photo?
This was taken at a forest preserve in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, Ill.
2. What time of day?
It was shot in mid-morning light.
3. Anything worth sharing about lighting?
Yes. I've always liked slight overcast for scenic fall shots. Colors are more saturated & no hard shadows. It makes lighting easier to deal with. This day had a perfect "slight" overcast.
4. What equipment did you use?
On this day I use a Fuji HS20. No other equipment was brought.
5. What inspired you to take this photo?
The colors were absolutely vibrant that morning. Add to that the "slight overcast" & I had the ideal day for shooting.
6. Did you do any post-processing? If yes, tell us about it!
Yes. A little exposure correction, noise reduction, just a slight increase in saturation & a slight amount of sharpening. Also a bit of "dodging" to bring out some detail in the darker areas.
7. What equipment do you normally have in your bag?
I carry a Fuji X-S1 along with a tripod, ND filter, polarizing filter & remote shutter release.
8. Any advice for others trying to capture something similar?
Definitely go out on a slightly overcast day if you're fortunate enough to find the timing just right.
