Covid gave me time to clean out enough of one room to set up space for a home studio, so I could experiment in product shots and stock photography.Time
Since I used the studio lights, time of day was not a primary concern, but I am not a morning person, so I photographed it in the afternoon.Lighting
I used a strobe with a softbox from a basic studio lighting set and a piece of paper as a reflector/fill, I like having the power and adjustability of the studio strobe. Interesting thing about the light set, 6 months earlier we gave our friends the old Nissan Sentra sitting in our backyard and 4 months later they gave us their old light set which included 2 strobes, a softbox and umbrella.Equipment
I used my Canon 6D with a Canon 28-90 mm lens. Both are second hand items, the Canon 6D was an eBay find and the lens was a thrift store item.Inspiration
This was my attempt to do an editorial image that was envisioned to be a cover for a news magazine. It represents all the people and countries clawing for the Covid-19 vaccine, the empty bottle for the limited supply and the capped syringe is for the people that will be left out.Editing
I adjusted the contrast and brightness a bit, but most of the work was cleaning up the text in the label on the bottle. My printer was a little out of toner in some spots, so I had to fix those in the final image. In my camera bag
I really don't keep a camera bag ready, since my photography interests change from day to day. For example, if I shoot something macro, then I have the Minolta extension bellows (a thrift store find) setup on the Sony A3000. For more general things, it might be the Canon XSi or the 6D.Feedback
Use the equipment that you have to make images. You don't have to go out and get the most expensive camera or have a professional studio to produce interesting images that people will like.
