Los Gigantes is a resort town in the Santiago del Teide municipality on the west coast of the Canary Island Tenerife.
Its main feature are the giant rock formations, Acantilados de Los Gigantes, that rise from the sea to a height of 500-850 meters (1,640–2,625 ft) after which the town has been named. Los Gigantes means "The Giants".
Since I had a decent amount of time that evening i tried to find an alternative to the view point at the beach which most photographers chose.
After some unsuccessful hiking at the steep cliffs i noticed that a cloud wall at the horizon would block the settling sun which forced me to find a composition within some minutes.
I hoped that those nicely lit plants would give me some foreground interest for the shot. After the best light of that evening was gone i gave a different viewpoint with a single foreground plant a go and I have to admit that it works compositionally better than this main shot.
Lesson learned: Simplicity is key!
If you are interested to see the alternative take, a short video from the hiking trail at the cliffs and the exact location of the photograph, head over to my facebook page:

By the way: I am going to Valensole from July, the 5th to the 8th to shoot the beautiful lavender fields.
If anyone of you is around I would be happy to meet you there, just drop me a short message.
Best regards, Marcus
