My background is in theatre and education. For 40+ years I've been active in our local community theatre as an actress, director, designer and more recently mentor and photographer. This shot is from a recent production of "Fiddler On the Roof" and is of 2 of Tevya's daughters. Until the show, I had never met them until I did their headshots for the promotions board. I also took photos during dress rehearsal for the company.

Location
The photo was taken in the 300 seat theatre at the local recreation center in the county seat, just 7 miles from my home. I was seated in the "director's row," which is approximately 1/2-2/3 back from the stage in the center of the row.Time
I was taking photographs for the cast members and the director, a former student of mine that I was mentoring for the local community theatre group, during dress rehearsal week. This photo was shot on July 19, 2017 sometime after 7:30pm. This shot took place during the song "Matchmaker" from the show "Fiddler on the Roof".Lighting
Basic stage lights were used with gels in straw, pink and white in the spots that were onstage and from the catwalk over the audience. Spotlights were also used to highlight the singers. The scene takes place during the day so lighting was designed to represent daylight.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon d3300 with a Nikkor 70-300 lens. No tripod (I'm not comfortable using them), minimal flas based on how bright the stage lights were, and plenty of luck.Inspiration
As noted previously, I was taking photographs for the cast members and the director, many would be gifts to members of the show. Tis is one of my favorite musicals, and I was so impressed with the gals playing the main character's daughters that I knew I needed to get good shots of them. All photos from the rehearsal were candid shots. I had just started into photography as a hobby and had the camera set on auto. I loved the multiple shots I could get in just a second to later go through and pic the best one.Editing
Yes! For this shot, I used the photo editing program that came with my computer. I was able to tilt the photo to the right, giving the girls a more upright position and raising the clothes on the line more. I then changed it from color to a soft black & white image as I felt that was a better look for this particular shot.In my camera bag
My bag is a crossbody pack and I love the multiple zippers so I don't have to open the entire pack for just one piece of equipment. My Nikon d5600 dslr is always ready to go. And yes, this was a recent upgrade for me. I carry both my Nikkor 18-55mm lens as well as my Nikkor 70-300mm lens. I also have a small poseable tripod, various hoods and filters in the pack.Feedback
Patience. Lots of patience. Know your subject. I had seen practically every rehearsal, so I knew what to anticipate my subjects movements would be, which helped clue me in to how to get the best shots.
