Location
The photo was taken at the Swan Lake State Park just 7 miles from our home. As a self-taught photographer I try to make the best of all opportunities for the right shot.Time
It was taken at dusk as the sun was setting. This is my absolute favorite photo I have taken of a sunset.Lighting
I don't use any lighting equipment, only natural light. No flash.Equipment
I use a Nikon camera with a 70-300mm lens. That is all. I sometimes will switch out the lens to a smaller size but not with this shot.Inspiration
This spot by the lake is a great location for not just sunsets/sunrises but also water shots and bird shots. It is very common to see people stopping to take a photo along this stretch.Editing
I just made lines crisper for the silhouettes and lightened the ground a bit, otherwise I left the photo untouched by editing. In my camera bag
I always pack my Nikon 5600 dslr camera along with 2 to 3 lenses. I have the standard 18-55mm, the 70-300mm, and my "big betty" Tamron 150=600mm for distance shots or closer zooming.Feedback
Be patient. Don't rush a shot. Wait for the right lighting, right colors. The best reds seem to occur as the sun is setting and a slight flare of light shows.
