Behind The Lens

Location

I took this phot while out exploring Western Australia just south of Perth.

Time

It was around 3pm but was shaded with quite a bit of tree cover.

Lighting

The area was shaded by trees which helped take out any harsh shadows and bumped up the ISO to get sharp and evenly exposed photo.

Equipment

I shot this on my very first dslr, Nikon D3000 with a Tamron 18-200 lens. F6.3 200mm 800 ISO

Inspiration

While taking photos I always try to get it right in the camera. The owl and lighting was perfect and was so still I was able to take my time and get the shot I had in the back of my mind.

Editing

None whatsoever

In my camera bag

I normally carry around a manfrotto travel tripod, sigma 10-20 f3.5, sigma 18-300mm, nikkor 35mm f1.8, nikkor 50mm f1.8

Feedback

Don't depend on the camera too much, this proves it really is the person behind the camera that is the special element of photography and the camera is a tool. I think I took about over 8000 photos while travelling and there was a few good shots in there but this one stood out for me. Before clicking the shutter try get the shot you have in your mind. Have patience and wait for the right time. Regardless of the camera I had on the day I don't think I would have taken this photo any different. Keep taking photos and learn know how to use the camera in manual. This really improved my shots and now making adjustments for lighting, depth of field, exposure, shutter speed are second nature. Forcing myself to use manual mode really helped me and I could see drastic improvements in quality rather than quantity.
