The Spotted Hyena, also known as the laughing hyena due to the unusual and eerie sounds it makes. After the African lion, the spotted hyena is the largest carnivore in Africa, weighing up to 180 pounds (80 kgs) and standing up to 30 inches (76 cm) at the shoulder. These are complicated, intelligent, and highly social animals with an awful reputation.
