He has no idea you are there and is not yet worried as he glances at something off the right edge. Practically perfect; which hunting magazine will be publishing this?

Location
This photo was taken in southwestern Oklahoma In the Wichita Mountains Wildlife RefugeTime
The shot was taken around 10:00 a.m.Lighting
This was shot using the available lighting. It was just about perfect for the shot so I didn't have to move around too much.Equipment
This photo was taken with a Nikon D300 and Nikon 28-300mm f5.6 lens. It was shot hand held.Inspiration
I had been looking for wildlife photos for some time but I wanted the fall colors in the background. It took two fall seasons (shooting photos every day for two weeks each season) before I was lucky enough to get the right shot at the right time.Editing
There was a little post processing done to the photo. I cropped in just a little and brought in some saturation to bring out more of the fall colors. In my camera bag
When I'm shooting wildlife I normally have two camera bodies with me. Right now those are a Nikon D800 and a Nikon D4s. For wildlife I carry a Nikon 28-300mm f5.6 lens, a Nikon 200-500mm f5.6 lens and a Nikon 600mm f4 lens with a 1.4 tele-converter. A tripod is a must for the 600mm lens but the other two can be hand held pretty easily.Feedback
I'd like to say there is a science to these shots but I have found over time that what it really takes to get them is time. You have to be there for the shot which can mean going back over and over again and waiting until it happens. You also have to be ready for the shot and have the right equipment. I can't say enough about spending the money on the sharpest lenses you can get. They make all the difference in the world.
