Location
This was taken up American Fork Canyon in Utah. It was at Silver Lake Flats looking south.Time
This was a great day for me. This was the first time that I saw the galaxy with my own eyes. It was on June 19th, 2015. It was between 1 and 2 in the morning when this image was taken. On this very trip we were out for a good 8-9 hours.Lighting
There wasn't much lighting at the time but when you have to do a long exposure, it makes it look like there is more light then there really is. We could barely walk around with the amount of light that was there. The light that you see at the top of the mountains is actually light pollution.Equipment
This was shot on the Nikon D60 with a 11-16 mm F/2.8. it was sitting on a really old tripod.Inspiration
Just seeing other people's milky way shots made me want to do the same. And also knowing someone personaly made it grow even more. It also helps to just love astronomy and spaceEditing
Yes, when it comes to night photography you have to do some post-processing to get the milky way to pop a little bit more. If you didn't, then the milky way would be very faint and very hard to see.In my camera bag
My main camera that is always in my bag is my Nikon D7200. I have my 18-200 mm lens in there with 3 extra batteries. Then I have my very trusty tripod too.Feedback
There are a couple of things that you need to know before going out and trying to shoot the milky way. First, you got to get where they is not much light pollution. Second, you have to watch the moon. What I mean by this is that you have to wait until a new moon or close to one to try and shoot. The reason I say that is because the moon will actually make it so you can't see the milky way cuz of the light that is coming off of it. Last, make sure that it is milky way season. The reason I say that is during certain times of the year you can see the milky way. So from about March to about September you'll be able to see it, well that what it is for me.
