Behind The Lens

Location

Our club, Oro Photographic Society, Inc. went out for a photo safari, we had a long drive just to be in this breathtaking place called Lake Apo.

Time

This photo was taken at 5:30AM. Usually you slept around 2 hours and woke up to shoot Galaxy until the sunrise.

Lighting

For me, the best light comes just before sunrise or after sunset. There you can see how wonderful our Creator is.

Equipment

This was taken with Nikon D800, Nikon 16-35 f/4 lens, Manfrotto 055 tripod and Manfrotto ballhead, Singhray GND and 6-stop circular Hoya ND filter.

Inspiration

As my mentor taught me, it is better to include a foreground, leading line and other elements to make the photo more appealing.

Editing

Yes, you have to learn and do post process your photo. For landscape, I shoot raw and definitely I have to do a post-processing. I give more importance in the sharpness aspect, especially the foreground.

In my camera bag

For photo safari, I usually pack ultra and wide angle lenses, a lot of filters, remote, spare batteries, memory cards, flashlight, headlamp, water, extra clothing or jacket, tripod and my camera.

Feedback

Patience is the key, especially in shooting landscapes. You have to wait for a good light after spending some time searching for a good foreground.
